Clearway Gives Back
At Clearway, the local community is at the heart of what we do. Our efforts and company values come together in concert to support local organizations that align with our vision for a clean energy future, alongside social initiatives that we believe are important for communities nationwide and around the world.
Clearway in the Community
Here are just a few examples of ways that we are supporting organizations and giving back.
COVID-19 Community Relief
When the toll of the coronavirus first began to emerge, Clearway looked for opportunities to help provide relief to the communities we proudly serve. Clearway donated nearly $500,000 to organizations in the communities across the nation where we live and operate, including food banks, non-profits, and other support organizations. These financial contributions have helped provide nutritious food for those in need and have gone to work in supporting those most impacted by this unprecedented pandemic.
Hurricane Dorian Disaster Relief
Clearway partnered with MPOWERD® to deliver 250 solar-powered Luci Lights to the Bahamas following Hurricane Dorian. The inflatable, waterproof, and highly durable Luci Lights supported aid workers and families who were without power. Clearway was part of a larger effort that brought over 10,000 Luci Lights to the impacted region.
New York's Solar for All Program
Clearway took an important step forward in increasing access to solar to customers, with two of its Hudson Valley Solar Farms dedicating subscriptions to the groundbreaking ‘Solar for All’ program, providing Community Solar farm subscriptions to low-income households. Administered by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), the “Solar for All” program offers eligible low-income households the opportunity to subscribe to a Community Solar project in their area without any upfront costs or fees. Two of Clearway’s first Community solar projects in the Hudson Valley, the Crans Mill and Underhill solar farms, will be supporting the program.
The Hudson Valley CSA Coalition
In early 2019, Clearway Community Solar partnered with the Hudson Valley Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) Coalition to underwrite a fund designed to further the CSA programming and begin development and research on a CSA offer for low-income families in the region. Clearway’s commitment to the CSA Coalition was designed to support the Coalition’s high priority projects and additionally aid exploratory planning to make CSA shares more accessible to low-income households. Established in 2016, the Hudson Valley CSA Coalition is a collaborative effort led by farmers and facilitated by Glynwood with the mission to support, expand, and diversify participation in Community Supported Agriculture throughout the region. Over eighty farms in thirteen counties participate in the Coalition.
GRID Alternatives
Clearway is proud to support GRID Alternatives, a national leader in helping low-income communities and communities of color nationwide get clean, affordable solar power and solar jobs. Through our financial contributions, Clearway is supporting GRID Alternatives’ programs across the country, and Clearway staff are volunteering their time to help install solar panels through GRID’s affordable solar homes program.
American Red Cross California Wildfire Fund
In December 2018, Clearway lent support to the American Red Cross California Wildfire Fund with a donation to support relief and recovery efforts of the communities impacted in profound ways. Clearway additionally established a unique Red Cross donation portal where employees could voluntarily make donations to support the California wildfire recovery efforts.
